The Atlantic Infographic: The 12 States of America
In this graphic, created with The Atlantic to go with an article created in cooperation with the authors of Our Patchwork Nation, Dante Chinni and James Gimpel, each county in the US is categorized based on one of 12 distinct economic categories. The authors “analyzed reams of demographic, economic, cultural, and political data to break the nation’s 3,141 counties into 12 statistically distinct types of place.” A different version of this map along with a more detailed graphic layout will appear in the April print edition of The Atlantic.
