They say knowledge is power, but how do we make knowledge powerful? The challenge of communicating information becomes especially difficult when trying to convey a message full of complex data, which is often difficult to interpret quickly and clearly to the naked eye. This motion graphic looks at some of the many visual techniques used by Column Five to communicate information effectively to a large audience.

The Value of Data Visualization from Column Five.

It’s pretty amazing how what we visualize can affect how firmly it gets stored in our brains as new knowledge!

The integration of music, narration and graphics was perfect. I love the design for its clarity and restraint. The messages were solid and very helpful in the face of increasing complexity and, dare I say it, indulgence in data representation. Lovely!

The illustration of complex data is the key to the users mind, just plain data is the key to the back button.

    Cool.

The future of community change can be enhanced thru using inforgraphics to put a face on data and making it user friendly.

The future depends more on design than we know. Infographics should be applied more directly in the educational system. Students of subjects such as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will understand quicker and better. Wonderful piece.

One of the best examples I’ve seen of how color can actually help our brains hone in and make sense out of large amounts of complex data.

I also love the flow of this video as it explains concepts by starting simple, and gradually building up to the big picture.

Great video. It address what media scholars like McLuhan refer to as the “human animal”. It’s all about tapping in to how our brains are hardwired. We’re all animals grazing in a field.

I think what is being addressed here only partially speaks to data visualization. It’s more just vector animation. Where is the data? The number part in the beginning is the strongest bit, in my opinion.
